Many people are extremely excited whenever they find out they are having a baby, just as my wife and I were as well. However a lot of this enthusiasm is usually tempered whenever they find out the price on baby items, especially the clothing. You will find that such places as Gymboree can routinely charge up to or more for a simple outfit. This is why it is extremely important for many couples to learn how to set a baby budget, and only buy the items that are actually necessary for your newborn. You will find this is not as difficult with the big ticket items, but most people have trouble keeping their restraints on when they are buying baby clothes. Whether this is because these clothes are so cute and people feel like they have to have all of the outfits they set their eyes on, or something more, this is usually where most people end up spending a big portion of their budget.
There are a number of ways around this, including such logical things as waiting until the baby stores have sales, and especially accepting hand-me-downs. You will soon discover that it doesn’t matter if you paid a hefty sum for an outfit or accepted the clothing from a friend or family member, that baby’s are not biased on what outfits they puke on or spill their food all over. So that outfit you may have paid for, will soon look just like the one you got from your aunt Bertha. You will also discover that you end up buying more baby clothes than you actually need, and your newborn has outgrown the clothing before he or she ever even fits into many of them. This is why it is particularly important to pay attention to the sizes you are buying, and in most cases it is more practical to buy outfits that are a little bit too big, as opposed to ones between 0 to 3 months.
Of course the best piece of advice I ever received was given to me by my cousin, who told me that you should not take the tags off of your clothing until you actually are going to use it. This is why you want to pay particular attention to the return policy of the store that you’re buying the clothing from, and to buy the baby clothes as close to the due date as possible. This will allow you to return any unused clothing that you have purchased, and in many cases you can save several hundred dollars or more by using this practice.
