Everyone loves the magic of autumn. Who doesn’t love crisp, clear air and bright coloured leaves floating gracefully to the ground? How many people can say they don’t enjoy hot apple cider and plump, oversized pumpkins? I dare you to find someone who says they don’t appreciate autumn.
Many times, young children revel in the delights of the season, yet enduring hayrides and parties with cold hands and feet. Autumn is a difficult season to plan baby clothes for, because the days could favor the warmth of summer or the short bluster of winter. When assembling baby clothes and planning an autumn wardrobe, you need to have a few staple items so your child will be prepared for any weather.
This year, it is popular for mothers to put bows and flowers in their daughter’s hair. This is accomplished by affixing ornaments to a headband or gentle elastic band. However, headbands don’t protect your baby’s ears from autumn wind. For the latter months, there are some cute little hats that resemble 1920s and 30s vintage styles that will protect your baby from the cold. As a bonus, these stylish little pieces are designed for decoration, so you can attach the ornaments to the hat instead of the headband.
For autumn, the first thing every baby needs is a pair of gerber-esque denim or corduroy overalls. These are thick enough to protect the little one’s knees should they take a tumble, and warm enough to retain the child’s body heat on a cold day.
Second, children should have a thin outfit to wear under their halloween costumes. Typical halloween costumes are ridiculously flimsy, so a warm underpiece will protect them as they trick-or-treat. (This also applies to those adorable argyle dresses that little girls are wearing now, and also those wooly plaid button down shirts for little boys. The leggings, tights, or undershirt will make a big difference.) Third, pea coats are very popular in baby clothes this year. Make sure you select a wool coat that buttons once on the inside and at least twice on the outside. Even the warmest coats can have “drafts,” so the inside button will help safeguard against that.
The third staple that children should have in their fall wardrobe is sturdy shoes. Many times, little ones are still sporting their mary janes, ballet flats, and summer shoes through September. They should have a good pair of sneakers, and also a pair of boots. Sometimes, teachers will take their classes on nature walk field trips at school, so this will protect your little guy or gal’s feet during their daily activities.
No matter what the weather brings this autumn, you can relax with your warm cider in the knowledge that your baby is dressed with the warmest, safest, stylish clothes in town. Now they can appreciate autumn to the fullest!
